odd little alucine

It's never previously occurred to Cayra to put a door across an alucine boundary, but now that she's encountered it in practice it makes sense. It makes it visually obvious and it lets you lock it if you want. This door wasn't locked, and it looked like it led to a public bathroom, not a bar, from the signage, so she's still confused. Still, it's a good idea. She twists open the glass vial pendant around her neck and bends her head to the little blue lily inside to make a note of it; as an afterthought she tries to send it off to her antheomancer-chatcircle, anything to have a decent conversation, but it doesn't go. Her flower doesn't look wilting, but she can put it back in the garden and get a fresher one for the vial later. At least her personal files look okay. She closes up the vial again, giving the flower a touch of antheomancy for its health, and finds a bathroom inside the bar that dominates this little alucine.

And then she emerges into the bar. It doesn't seem to be staffed. Or stocked. Why wasn't it locked?

"By itself," Flynn says, rising and following her.

Cayra turns the knob and pulls.

The portal swings open revealing a vast, featureless expanse that extends endlessly in every direction. The floor is white and slightly reflective, illuminated by a warm, sourceless light. There is no visible ceiling.

"This isn't exactly what I expected," Flynn says, stepping inside.

"It's huge," says Cayra. "And it's got alucine-type daylight."

From the inside, the portal appears to be a door, standing alone in the empty space.

"I don't feel any different," Flynn says.

[affodell]

"That's good, I hope." Cayra attempts to go around the door, to see what it looks like from the other side.

[erinflight]

From the other side the door looks exactly the same, except it doesn't have a doorknob and the words 'tomorrow pineapple vision' are written in the center.

Cayra continues walking around without breaking stride, and then opens the door again. "It works," she says. "Quite brilliantly."

[erinflight]

"So I did get what I wanted, just a lot bigger than I expected and without walls, unless they're out there in the distance somewhere."

[affodell]

"Mm-hm." No need to mention that the password Flynn thought she ought not to know is written on the back of the door. "Time to get more cloth for a second door in?"

[erinflight]

"Yep, I'll try to make the next one indestructible. Anything else you want me to add?"

[affodell]

"The doorknob's a little more conspicuous than I'd like, and will make it hard to carry the cloth in a kangaroo pouch, so if you can avoid that it would be good. And maybe put the door facing the first one a hundred feet away?"

[erinflight]

Flynn goes and grabs another piece of cloth, the second portal is finished in seconds and appears a hundred feet away. Flynn goes to inspect it. Instead of a doorknob, there is now a small latch.

"It was a lot easier that time, though the latch also wasn't intentional," Flynn says, "Do you want to go outside and try to break it?"

"Sure. You might not want to be in the portal room while I do that, in case something... happens?"

[erinflight]

"Yea, that would be bad." Flynn walks back through the first portal onto the grass.

[affodell]

And Cayra turns her fingernails on one hand into claws and starts carefully trying to shred the portal.

[erinflight]

The portal leaps away from her hand, breaking free of the tree branch and moving back several feet.

[affodell]

"It escaped," Cayra giggles.

[erinflight]

Flynn grins, "I guess that's one way to stay safe. See if you can call it back?"

[affodell]

"Heeere portal portal."

[erinflight]

The portal drifts towards Cayra slowly and then gently nudges her outstretched arm.

[affodell]

"Awwww. It's tame." Pat pat.

[erinflight]

The portal drapes itself over Cayra's arm, gently vibrating.

"It's alive. I created life. I swear I did not mean to do that."

[affodell]

"I wonder how much of a personality it has. ...Roll over."

[erinflight]

The portal flops down on the ground.

"I wonder if it will listen to me too? Come here portal."

Nothing happens.
