odd little alucine

It's never previously occurred to Cayra to put a door across an alucine boundary, but now that she's encountered it in practice it makes sense. It makes it visually obvious and it lets you lock it if you want. This door wasn't locked, and it looked like it led to a public bathroom, not a bar, from the signage, so she's still confused. Still, it's a good idea. She twists open the glass vial pendant around her neck and bends her head to the little blue lily inside to make a note of it; as an afterthought she tries to send it off to her antheomancer-chatcircle, anything to have a decent conversation, but it doesn't go. Her flower doesn't look wilting, but she can put it back in the garden and get a fresher one for the vial later. At least her personal files look okay. She closes up the vial again, giving the flower a touch of antheomancy for its health, and finds a bathroom inside the bar that dominates this little alucine.

And then she emerges into the bar. It doesn't seem to be staffed. Or stocked. Why wasn't it locked?

"Interesting," says Cayra, hair cycling through the entire rainbow. "So, Flynn, that's easy to shut down. Any ideas besides the stepstool? That one might be better saved for later."

"Food, except, I don't want that coming alive. Ah, I bet weaving can heal."
Checking with Cayra, Flynn sends the threads into the gathering crowd, fixing wounds, removing disease, and alleviating the effects of age.

A murmur begins to spread within the previously solemn crowd.

Cayra is all for healing.

"Obviously a fake Mr. Abbot?"
He scowls, but steps forward to quiet the crowd.

"He's the mayor," Flynn mutters to Cayra. "He's awful, but isn't an idiot. Hopefully he won't cause any problems."

"Hopefully."

Flynn explains recent events leaving out the bar, instead saying Cayra is a magician from another land.

After a few more displays of carefully controlled power, most of Flynn's neighbors seem to believe her story, though a few still watch her suspiciously.

The crowd disperses, leaving them alone except for a few of Flynn's friends and Mr. Abbot.

And Cayra, of course. "Are we loitering here?" she asks Flynn.

"I want to talk to Ray, but I don't see him anywhere."

[affodell]

"Well, where would he usually be?"

[midst_of_threads]

"At home maybe? But I thought I saw him in the crowd earlier. I guess we should check."

[affodell]

"Lead the way."

Flynn takes Cayra to her home, a large building towards the center of town.

She tries to open the door, finds it locked and knocks.

"This isn't my house really," Flynn says, "It's a dormitory and a lot of people live here."

"How come you live in a dorm?"

[midst_of_threads]

"A weaver attacked us a few years ago. He didn't come in the town, but he wiped out several fields. A lot of farmers died. This became a home for single parents and orphans. I help take care of the kids."

[affodell]

"I hesitate to ask because getting it wrong would be a catastrophe, but: you don't suppose weaving can resurrect the dead?"

[midst_of_threads]

"I'd never thought about it. If it's just advanced healing, it might work. But the lights the threads were talking about sound like souls. So it might be more complicated."

[affodell]

"Maybe you can find out what happens to souls, and then see if you can reconstruct or retrieve them?"

[midst_of_threads]

"I'd have to see it happen though. Now that I can heal I cant't just let someone die. Maybe animals have souls?"

The door opens, cutting Flynn off.

Ray steps outside and stands silently, arms folded.

Flynn opens her mouth to speak and then hesitates.

[affodell]

"Hello," says Cayra. "...A miracle occurred, she's fine."

[midst_of_threads]

"I heard," Ray doesn't meet Flynn's eyes, "but you're still a weaver. You can't stay here."

"I'm the same person," Flynn says, "Who I am hasn't changed."

"That's good," Ray forces a smile, "You still can't stay. Kids live here. I left your stuff on the porch."

[affodell]

"She's not dangerous to kids. They won't be scared of her unless you tell them to be scared."

[midst_of_threads]

"She. Is. A. Weaver." Ray says and goes back inside. The lock clicks.

Flynn sighs, "I'm not surprised. Weavers are this world's monsters. No matter what I show them, a fear that deep won't disappear overnight."

[affodell]

"Suppose. Well, you can probably weave yourself a house."

[midst_of_threads]

"I think I'll wander for a while. Maybe I'll make a magic tent. The other towns won't know what's going on, someone needs to tell them. I'll also need to find the former weavers. There's plenty to do."

[affodell]

"Sure. How long do you want me to come along?" Pause. "Isn't the portal still in your dorm?"
