odd little alucine

It's never previously occurred to Cayra to put a door across an alucine boundary, but now that she's encountered it in practice it makes sense. It makes it visually obvious and it lets you lock it if you want. This door wasn't locked, and it looked like it led to a public bathroom, not a bar, from the signage, so she's still confused. Still, it's a good idea. She twists open the glass vial pendant around her neck and bends her head to the little blue lily inside to make a note of it; as an afterthought she tries to send it off to her antheomancer-chatcircle, anything to have a decent conversation, but it doesn't go. Her flower doesn't look wilting, but she can put it back in the garden and get a fresher one for the vial later. At least her personal files look okay. She closes up the vial again, giving the flower a touch of antheomancy for its health, and finds a bathroom inside the bar that dominates this little alucine.

And then she emerges into the bar. It doesn't seem to be staffed. Or stocked. Why wasn't it locked?

"Is there any other reason this is a bad idea that you're not telling me?"

"If you come home with me and we don't leave one of the portals here, or something happens to it while it's here, you won't be able to go home even if you're free of vice, unless you find the magic door again. I don't think you speak my language, so we'll probably have a hard time communicating when we've left the magic translation effect, unless you can duplicate that. I already mentioned that I'm going to wind up very self-absorbed. That's all that comes to mind right now."

Flynn releases the threads with a flick of her wrist, "Thank you."
She sits and thinks for a moment using the flower she's still holding to organize her thoughts.
"I can weave your control so that anytime I weave, I need your permission for it to alter the world, and you will see exactly what I intend. I can make it so we always understand each other and neither of us can deliberately harm the other. Anything else?"

"If there's some gap in this that we aren't thinking of and you go rogue mightn't I need to harm you? Not that I want to, but cutting off the possibility seems dangerous."

"You can't harm me unless I try to hurt your or someone else? You could also cause me to feel any pain a particular person is currently experiencing. That might combat my loss of empathy."

"That would not be my first choice for re-installing empathy. Oh, but if we're going to try countering your weaving vice with 'mancer vices - the knowflowers know all the 'mancies and it would be bad to add something like pyromancy or tephramancy to what you've already got. I need to be able to restrict what you look at on the knowflowers."

"I can widen your restriction of my magic to all magic, not just weaving. Then I could acquire any vice, but not freely use any of the power."

Cayra shakes her head. "Using 'mancy doesn't cause vices, learning it does. If you learn pyromancy, you lose emotional regulation."

[erinflight]

"That would be bad. I'll weave your control so I need permission to use and acquire magic."

[affodell]

"Specifically. So I could let you learn lithomancy for calm but you couldn't use the knowflower I gave you for pyromancy."

[erinflight]

"Yes, you can give me permission for lithomancy, but if I tried to learn pyromancy you'd have to give me permission again."

[affodell]

"Okay. And... there's damage people can do even without magic. You could set something on fire with a torch or whatever and I'm not sure how I'd physically interfere. What would I do about that?"

[erinflight]

"You can cause me to feel someone's pain, and I suppose you should be able to knock me out," Flynn makes a face.

[affodell]

"Yeah, even if nobody's in the house because I saved them or they weren't home you still shouldn't commit arson. Let's go with the knockout option. I don't want to trust fake pain-sharing empathy when you won't have your underlying reasoning ability working very well."

[erinflight]

Flynn nods, "When I do this, you're going to feel it. Weaving is like touching metal in winter, standing in a hailstorm, and sparks from a fire, but there isn't any pain."

"...Just one second."

Cayra ducks into a portal.

"Room," she says, "please cover up the password on the backs of the doors, and don't let anybody but me see it. Thank you."

The passwords disappear.

Okay. Good. She lets herself out. "Sorry about that."

"What was it?"

[affodell]

"Information security hazards."

[erinflight]

"Can you think of anything else to add?"

[affodell]

"I can knock you out, I can give you specific 'mancy-learning and magic-using permission... what if you wander off? There's two portals, and if you're living in the room you could get out of one even if I was watching the other, while I wasn't watching you. And then being able to knock you out might make a decent precautionary measure, unless you went swimming and it drowned you, but it wouldn't help me find you again."

"Plus the ability to find me and the ability to know how much I've lost, so you won't have any surprises."

[affodell]

"Okay. I'll be able to do without sleep, pretty soon, so that should leave me with time to do other stuff even if lithomancy doesn't leave you pretty docile..."

"Thank you for doing this. I'm a stranger to you, you have no reason to help me, but you're doing it anyway. Thank you. I'll do as much for you as I can for as long as I can. I was so afraid of becoming a monster."
