Here, in a place where she is quite an unexpected sight, is:
an eight year old girl with brown-flecked white wings, looking dismayed and lost.

It's one of the night ones. One of the prettiest of them.
He leads her to his house. It is surprisingly small, but very magic, in lots of subtle ways.

Although her outfit has no sleeves, she is unbothered by the cold, not even putting her wings around herself.

The inside of the house is very magic, in lots of unsubtle ways. There's various inscrutable magical gadgetry and fancy magical lights that flicker on automatically and a load of other weird things. The man makes tea by making a 'go on' motion to what looks to be a magic tea kettle, and it obligingly starts heating itself up. By magic. Because of course it does.
While the water's boiling, the man sits down in a comfy chair. There isn't a seat suitable for someone with angel wings nearby, but he retrieves one with a casual wave, and it comes over and sets itself down nearby so that the eight year old may sit.
"All right, I'll look for your mommy first. Is she likely to react badly to someone scrying her?"

"Long brown hair, speckled wings, some sort of leather clothing. Talking to a very similar-looking young woman with a crown, in... Some kind of city on an ocean. Sound familiar?"

There is Pen's mother. Tiny and slightly transparent and talking to someone that isn't there.

He gets to checking both. One is an ordinary gem, the other... Is not.
There is another half to it, he can tell, but when he tries to locate it, it's - he flinches back, blinking and trying to clear his vision. That was the most spectacular failure of a scry he has ever seen. Briefly. Before he was momentarily blinded. Okay. The other gem is unaccountable, and also, ow.
"Is Jane in Milliways?" he asks, on a hunch, rubbing his eyes.

He does tricksy things. They are so very tricksy. The ticksiest, in fact.
"Ha. I am very clever. I think I found your other mommies. They're all pretty far away, but one's closer than the others. Want an illusion of her?"
