odd little alucine

It's never previously occurred to Cayra to put a door across an alucine boundary, but now that she's encountered it in practice it makes sense. It makes it visually obvious and it lets you lock it if you want. This door wasn't locked, and it looked like it led to a public bathroom, not a bar, from the signage, so she's still confused. Still, it's a good idea. She twists open the glass vial pendant around her neck and bends her head to the little blue lily inside to make a note of it; as an afterthought she tries to send it off to her antheomancer-chatcircle, anything to have a decent conversation, but it doesn't go. Her flower doesn't look wilting, but she can put it back in the garden and get a fresher one for the vial later. At least her personal files look okay. She closes up the vial again, giving the flower a touch of antheomancy for its health, and finds a bathroom inside the bar that dominates this little alucine.

And then she emerges into the bar. It doesn't seem to be staffed. Or stocked. Why wasn't it locked?

A figure appears, holding a flower. The flower isn't magical. The figure hands it to Cayra and hangs it's head, looking embarrassed.

"Aw. That's okay," Cayra tells the silver figure. "Flower doesn't work," she tells Flynn.

The figure lifts it's head and disappears.

"I guess that was too much to hope for. Can it make living things? And can you see if it can make any of my kind of money?"

"Room, please bring us a potted live lilac bush and some of her gold orbs, thank you."

Both are set down on the table. The bush looks healthy and Flynn happily sweeps the orbs into her pocket.
"So I know that weaving is really powerful and that it likes making living things but," Flynn pauses, "Its harder to think now, a lot harder. I can't even figure out what I still need to know."

"I find it easier to think if I do it into a private petal," Cayra says. "Do you want to borrow my flower?"

"Umm, sure, thank you."

Cayra unscrews it from the pendant and hands it over. If Flynn goes nuts and harms it that'll be warning - rats, the candy's outside - and she can always get another. "Let's go back outside," she suggests, getting up and heading for a portal.

Flynn follows her, frowning, "I really can't think, my brain's full of clouds. I didn't know it would feel like this!"

"I'm sorry."

[erinflight]

"Can you ask me some questions about the other stuff? See if I've gotten worse in the other areas besides thinking?"

[affodell]

"What other stuff? Like, what's your favorite color, or can you remember my name...?"

[erinflight]

"Cayra and orange. Uh, I'd still be sad if my friends got hurt, that's one question I was going to ask myself."

[affodell]

"Okay, that's good then."

[erinflight]

"But I still don't know why I'm a weaver, or how to not go crazy, or how to keep Crake's Hollow safe. I know the threads like living things now, but I'm not sure that actually helps."

[affodell]

"I wonder if the things you weave are taking your personality. The - the friendly portals and helpful room."

[erinflight]

"I hadn't thought of that. Maybe that's why older weaver's magic is more dangerous?"

[affodell]

"Maybe. It also suggests that if you could make mean things you wouldn't get worse, but then there would... you know, be mean things."

[erinflight]

"I don't really get what you mean, sorry."

[affodell]

"If the portals took some of your friendliness, then if you made, I don't know, an evil stepstool, it might take some of the nasty personality traits you're otherwise developing unsafe amounts of. But I could be completely wrong. And even if I was right, the weaving doesn't always do exactly what you have in mind, you'd have to balance all the dangerous personality effects, and then there would be an evil stepstool."

"I'm not really sure how that would work with empathy or self control though. Unless I gave the room some of my ability to think and that's why I can't? Usually what happens is someone becomes a weaver, they use their magic to help their family a bit, then they leave. Often, a few years later they come back for the people they cared about, but they don't notice if they're hurting or upsetting someone. They do whatever they want right away and are very illogical. Sometimes, they end up accidentally killing their loved ones, and are very upset, but they never really understand that it was their fault."

"How is being upset if your friends were hurt a good litmus test if the only thing that's damaged is the ability to understand how it happened, then...?"

[erinflight]

"They were upset that they lost them, not because they had any empathy for them. When they come back they can't understand other people's pain. So if I can feel bad because my friends are unhappy, I still have some empathy left."

"Aha."
