odd little alucine

It's never previously occurred to Cayra to put a door across an alucine boundary, but now that she's encountered it in practice it makes sense. It makes it visually obvious and it lets you lock it if you want. This door wasn't locked, and it looked like it led to a public bathroom, not a bar, from the signage, so she's still confused. Still, it's a good idea. She twists open the glass vial pendant around her neck and bends her head to the little blue lily inside to make a note of it; as an afterthought she tries to send it off to her antheomancer-chatcircle, anything to have a decent conversation, but it doesn't go. Her flower doesn't look wilting, but she can put it back in the garden and get a fresher one for the vial later. At least her personal files look okay. She closes up the vial again, giving the flower a touch of antheomancy for its health, and finds a bathroom inside the bar that dominates this little alucine.

And then she emerges into the bar. It doesn't seem to be staffed. Or stocked. Why wasn't it locked?

"I'm not having any trouble remembering things. I can still make basic mental connections. But I tried to multiply 31 and 8 and couldn't. I don't know." Flynn pauses, "There's two portals now. You could get back here if you left. Do you have any friends who could help?"

"I'm not near anyone I know. I'm in transit. I went to talk to a tephramancer who does a really good job controlling her vice to ask her for advice about learning automancy, and I found this place on my way home. I'm not sure who I'd find, even if I went on the chatcircles and asked about locals. An oneiromancer might be able to do something, but oneiromancers can't understand language, so I have no idea how I'd explain the problem."

"They can't talk? That's a really bad vice. Ok, so I can't get rid of weaving, I can't not weave forever, I can't easily kill myself. But I probably won't become any more vicious or bloodthirsty then I am now. I just won't be able to empathize, think clearly, make rational decisions, or control myself. The best possible scenario is that I figure out weaving before I lose my mind or find a way to stop myself from hurting people." Flynn rubs her eyes, "Do you have any ideas?"

"They can talk, they just can't understand," Cayra clarifies. "They can also read minds, so some of them have interpreters who let them do that. I can try it, but there might not be any anywhere nearby."

"Could you? Would I be able to learn some of your magic now that you can come back?"

[affodell]

"The flowers don't network here, so even if I bring in a knowflower I don't think you'll be able to learn anything from it. But an oneiromancer might be able to look into your mind and see what was going on."

"I wonder, I just had a thought. It might not be a very good one. It depends on- What are your goals? What are you trying to get from your life?"

"...Who, me?"

"Yea."

"Learn automancy, travel more, find useful things to do and do them."

[erinflight]

"Weavers can't kill themselves with weaving, and I can't just turn get rid of it, I tried. But I might be able to limit myself, lock my power away and give someone else the key. At home everyone is too afraid of weaving, it's a curse no one will touch." Flynn looks at the grass, "I don't know you very well, but I would do anything to not become a monster. If you got power in return, would you consider being my keeper?"

"...I'd need to know more about what that entails."

"I"m not sure what exactly would work. I would try to lock away my power so either I'd have to get specific permission to use it, or you could give me commands I'd have to obey. Some weavers have slaves, though I've never seen a weaver become a slave. I would ask someone at home, but the fear there runs very very deep. They'll use woven items, but no one will talk to a weaver or even let one get close."

"The vice for automancy is self-centeredness. I think I'll be able to keep it significantly under control for most purposes but I don't know that I'm a good choice for long-term keeping another person responsibly. But... you might not have any other options, huh."

" If you could prevent me from using my power, but not force me to use it, would you be tempted to abuse that?"

[affodell]

"I don't think so, but if I had to, generally, keep an eye on you, I might wind up neglecting you."

[erinflight]

"Hmm. If I got access to the room, I could take care of myself. I could give you control over my power and permission to ignore me without any guilt once I completely lose myself. Until then I can make useful things for you and you could try to help me understand weaving? If we do find a solution, you could give me permission to remove your control."

"...If this is what you want to try and you understand the problems with an automancer as your keeper, then, okay."

"Thank you. I know its a far from perfect solution, but it's the best I've found so far, and my ability to think of solutions is starting to go away."

[affodell]

"And I don't have enough information to think of better ones. So, okay. What do we need to do to set this up?"

[erinflight]

"We'll need to figure out exactly how it's going to work, so the threads don't have much room to twist it."

"Yeah. You should need permission not only to use magic at all but to use any particular magic, so I don't try to give you permission to make a portal and wind up with an evil stepstool..."

"Have you had problems with evil stepstools?"

"No, but if you made one I'd be very annoyed, especially if it ran away when I tried to claw it."
