Bella slips into the school by a side door; she just saw a thing and she thinks she's seen it in a book before and thinks it's supposed to be mostly harmless but before she wakes Giles up over probably nothing or kills a likely neutral demon she wants to check.

And she pushes into the library.

"Yes, you were," says Miles. "Apology accepted. Thank you for trying."

"You're welcome."

"I appreciate it."

Drive drive.

Quiet vampires.

[cross_and_bow]

And eventually: airport.

"Have a fun soul adventure. Please be gentle stowing away on the plane, and don't get caught or they'll add having crosses waved in one's face as a TSA screening procedure and the lines'll be twice as long."

Snicker. "Will do."

[cross_and_bow]

"Lemme know if you need a ride when you get back!" She gives them her phone number.

[thisvorlunatic]

"Thanks. Take care. If I come back and find you've been killed in the line of duty, I will look into resurrection."

"Aww, thanks, although please consult people on that, I hear it can be a real disaster handled improperly."

"Noted."

[cross_and_bow]

And she drops them off and drives home.

Time passes. One week stretches to two. Reclaiming one's soul is a time-consuming business, apparently.

Then Bella gets a call from the airport.

"Hey there!"

"Bella! Hi! Mission success. Would now be a convenient time to pick us up?"

[cross_and_bow]

"Yeah, sure, who cares about math homework. Be there in a bit."

She is there in a bit.

Miles is looking slightly weathered but intensely happy. He waves when he spots her car approaching.

Mark, standing beside him, is smiling just a little.

"Yo. How was your adventure? Did you have a joint adventure or just the one?"

[thisvorlunatic]

"Turns out they don't offer bulk pricing on souls. Since Mark is getting by just fine without his, we decided not to bother."

[cross_and_bow]

"All right then. If he suddenly sits bolt upright in bed and realizes that he has lost his love of classical music and needs it back I will tell you to take a taxi if it is an inopportune time."
