odd little alucine

It's never previously occurred to Cayra to put a door across an alucine boundary, but now that she's encountered it in practice it makes sense. It makes it visually obvious and it lets you lock it if you want. This door wasn't locked, and it looked like it led to a public bathroom, not a bar, from the signage, so she's still confused. Still, it's a good idea. She twists open the glass vial pendant around her neck and bends her head to the little blue lily inside to make a note of it; as an afterthought she tries to send it off to her antheomancer-chatcircle, anything to have a decent conversation, but it doesn't go. Her flower doesn't look wilting, but she can put it back in the garden and get a fresher one for the vial later. At least her personal files look okay. She closes up the vial again, giving the flower a touch of antheomancy for its health, and finds a bathroom inside the bar that dominates this little alucine.

And then she emerges into the bar. It doesn't seem to be staffed. Or stocked. Why wasn't it locked?

"No!" Flynn laughs, "It's only being a weaver that causes the problems. Is there any way I could get the calm vice here?"

"This flower isn't networking and it's the wrong kind. Bar, you probably won't make me a knowflower, right?"

Too magical, too alive, and your networks can't reach through the temporal effect of the door - time is not passing in your homes while you are here.

"Oh. Cool, sort of. So, no, you can't learn lithomancy here, sounds like. But yeah, I'm happy to try to talk through weaving with you and get cool stuff if the cool stuff isn't going to result in you trying to kill me or anything."

"I've used as little weaving as possible so far and it's a gradual change, so I think I can afford to experiment a bit. But, bar, what would happen if I went crazy here?"

If you attempted to attack another patron, Security would be equipped to stop you, probably in time to prevent any more than superficial damage to whoever you tried to harm, but they could not to undo your degeneration. You might be ejected from the bar if a period of time in a holding cell did not calm you.

"I mean, automancy can do some defense, but I don't know what an attacking weaver would do or whether it would interact with automancy I know how to do."

"Why don't you insult me each time I use weaving, and if I snap back at you we'll stop? I'd have to degenerate a lot more than that to be dangerous."

"Uh, that's technically well within my power, but doesn't sound like it'll lead to a really fun working relationship."

[erinflight]

"I mean, I'd know why you were doing it, so it wouldn't really bother me. Are there any better tests to see if I'm losing my self-control, empathy, or logical thinking?"

[affodell]

"Logic puzzles? Maybe Bar can give us a bowl of candy full of sleeping drugs and if you eat the candy you'll take a nap and I can slip away."

Flynn nods, "I like that idea better, if I eat a piece of candy I know is drugged I'm obviously losing my self control."

[affodell]

"Bar, can you do that?"

Yes. I do have to charge for the candy. Who's buying?

"I don't have much on me. I have most of my savings in network escrow. Do you have any left or should I pay, Flynn?"

"I'm out of money, but I could make some gold and pay you back?"

[affodell]

"Make gold? With what, weaving?"

[erinflight]

Flynn nods,"I won't be able to make it coin-shaped, but I can do gold."

[affodell]

"If you can make gold you can probably make stuff I'd rather have than gold and I'll take that as payback. But are you sure you should be doing this at all, instead of just... not? If you're going to do weaving anyway, making me presents until you eat drugged candy is... a way to do it, but it sounds probably worse than just not exacerbating your vice."

[erinflight]

"Weavers can't not use weaving. It's like trying not to sleep. You can do it for a while, but eventually you're going to give in. I've been resisting for weeks now, trying to wait until I can do something useful. This seems like the best opportunity I'm going to get."

[affodell]

"...Okay. What can you make, besides gold?"

[erinflight]

"I think I could weave anything, but the more complicated it is, the more likely it will turn out twisted. There was a farmer in a town west of us who became a weaver. She decided to make a river running next to her town, so it would be easier to water the crops. She made a river, but it was huge and impossibly fast. The entire town was flooded and within a year there was a canyon where it used to be."

"And that's complexity, not size?"

[erinflight]

"I think so. The threads made water and they made it river shaped, but her intention was completely lost. Maybe it's that the simpler the goal, the more likely you are to get what you want. But no one has a rulebook of weaving, I'm going off of stories I've been told."

[affodell]

"Will it be obvious if something you make is 'twisted' or might I wind up taking home something dangerous?"

[erinflight]

"I think it will be obvious. The woven objects from the stories seem more misinterpreted than malicious, and there's no stories about successfully woven objects messing up later."

[affodell]

"Okay. Now I have to decide what I want... do you have any ideas? Simple things. I'm coming up with complicated ideas, and you know more about what you can do than I do."

"I want to understand how weaving works, so I could make a complicated thing several times and see how close I can get. Then, we can see if there were any obvious factors in the differences. It could try to duplicate one of your flowers, or I can do money."

[affodell]

"There are tons of flowers at home and money's all the - I'd rather have things I couldn't get anywhere except from you, does that make sense?"

[erinflight]

"Maybe wings? I have a friend who swore she saw a weaver flying once. I wouldn't try to do magic on you, I'd see if I could make them wearable."
