odd little alucine

It's never previously occurred to Cayra to put a door across an alucine boundary, but now that she's encountered it in practice it makes sense. It makes it visually obvious and it lets you lock it if you want. This door wasn't locked, and it looked like it led to a public bathroom, not a bar, from the signage, so she's still confused. Still, it's a good idea. She twists open the glass vial pendant around her neck and bends her head to the little blue lily inside to make a note of it; as an afterthought she tries to send it off to her antheomancer-chatcircle, anything to have a decent conversation, but it doesn't go. Her flower doesn't look wilting, but she can put it back in the garden and get a fresher one for the vial later. At least her personal files look okay. She closes up the vial again, giving the flower a touch of antheomancy for its health, and finds a bathroom inside the bar that dominates this little alucine.

And then she emerges into the bar. It doesn't seem to be staffed. Or stocked. Why wasn't it locked?

"Okay. Now I have to decide what I want... do you have any ideas? Simple things. I'm coming up with complicated ideas, and you know more about what you can do than I do."

"I want to understand how weaving works, so I could make a complicated thing several times and see how close I can get. Then, we can see if there were any obvious factors in the differences. It could try to duplicate one of your flowers, or I can do money."

"There are tons of flowers at home and money's all the - I'd rather have things I couldn't get anywhere except from you, does that make sense?"

"Maybe wings? I have a friend who swore she saw a weaver flying once. I wouldn't try to do magic on you, I'd see if I could make them wearable."

"I'll be able to grow wings myself when I know a little more automancy. I could sell a wearable pair but that just comes down to gold again."

"You will? Automancy sounds really useful. Hmmm."
Flynn pauses to think, "I could try to make a new animal.
Some fisherman use a species of woven giant turtles as boats, and there's a grove of trees I always see walking around. I could also try to make a portal you could carry with you, or a room you could always find."

"The room or portal would be amazing. But how does that work? Would it survive transit between alucines?"

[erinflight]

"I think I should attach it to an object, and then you could keep the object with you. My weaving didn't hurt your flower, so I don't think your portals should cancel mine. Do you have anything you wouldn't mind me messing with?"

"Not on me, but I can buy something from Bar that would do, probably. Where would the portal go?"

"I could put it inside a loop of rope or make it a piece of cloth you unfold? Maybe I should try to make the whole thing at once and see what the threads do with it."

"Cloth would probably be best. Something durable. But I mean where would the portal lead? ...And Bar, can I get that bowl of sleepy candy about now? How much will that run me?"

"No, that's cheap. It's less than I'd usually expect to pay for that amount of candy, let alone the sleepy drugs. Would the room be like its own alucine or would it be here? Actually, come to think of it, I want a portal to here, I'd like to be able to come back."

"Like an alucine maybe? But with walls instead of the nothingness you were talking about. I could try to make a portal lead here. I don't want to get too specific since I'm not sure how well any of this is going to work. Bar, how much does a human sized piece of cloth cost?"

I can get a hemmed durable piece of cloth large enough for a human to walk through for 42 units Araming fiat.

"...Can I get it really thin without compromising durability, so if I make a kangaroo pocket I can tuck it away?"

"Can you afford to get three of those?"

"Yes. This is so you can make multiple tries, or do you need three per?"

"Multiple tries and I want to make at least two portals. If you could get a few more, that would help."

"Why do you want to make two?"

[erinflight]

"I could make two leading to the room. I think it would be easier than making one portal with an adjustable end."

[affodell]

"I don't understand."

[erinflight]

"I'm not sure how I'd make a portal with adjustable ends, where you hold one end and the other end leads to your destination. I'd have to make the portable responsive to thought, and I'm not sure how I'd do that. Instead I was going to make two portals leading to an empty room, a place like an alucine, then you could carry one portal with you and leave the other in the place you want to go."

"...Oh, I think I was envisioning this differently. I was imagining that it would just be a room I could carry around with me, more or less, but you're thinking of the room as a throughway? So I'd pin one end to my bedroom at home and carry the other with me?"

"I realized a portal that could only lead to one place wouldn't be that useful, so I thought of combining the two ideas. The room should be big enough for you to put stuff in, or stay in if you want to."
